FY21 Proposed Budget

While the School Committee is currently working on the FY22 budget, I wanted to do some research on my own so I can better follow along with the conversations. When I opened the latest available budget on the School Committee site (FY21 Proposed) I was immediately overwhelmed by its 65 pages. I knew there had to be a better way for my accounting-minded brain to look at it, so I used an Excel converter to get it out of PDF and into my favorite application. I cleaned it up a little and organized it into a pivot table, which made it so much easier for me to analyze.

I wasn't sure if I could share my work publicly, so I want to thank Katie Aubin for looking into the rules for me. I mentioned to her that I did this and that I wished everyone could view the budget in this format and she asked, "Why can't we see it?" After a little research, it appears ok to share what I put together since the numbers were not altered, the data is just shaped differently.

I want to put as many disclaimers as possible on this - this is not a publication by the School Committee or their approved format, nor does it contain the account numbers. Every number on this can be traced directly back to the publicly available budget issued by the School Committee, but it is not an official posting by any means. It is simply what I was doing in my free time that I really wanted to share if it helps anyone else like it helped me. I will take 7 pages over 65 any day!
