I have very little authority to speak here, because my kids are only 2.5 and 4.5. But I do share most of the values as the author of this article and it gives me hope that she is still hanging on to these with a 7 and 8 year old.

"Screen time" doesn't exist in our house. Yes, we watch cartoons on weekend mornings, and have been doing a weekend movie night more often than not this winter. But other than that, the TV is off, and if my kids get their hands on a phone or an iPad, all they can do with it is lock me out!

Going to restaurants and driving up north for a ski trip could probably be easier, but we are enjoying the challenge and getting to know our kids' little personalities while watching them get to know the world. My girls play and fight endlessly. Their imaginations run wild, and they haven't learned the words "I'm bored" yet. That may not sound like much in regards to an almost 3 year old, but she has had some other choice things to say to me in the past 1.5 years that she has been speaking. I hope I don't change my tune any time soon! Gotta run, I hear screaming....
