Can't we all just get along?

The short answer, depending on how you view this phrase: No. Unfortunately, there are too many differences between the members of the human race for us to get along without facing any kind of friction.

What we can do is listen, treat others with respect, and try to understand or at least consider the multitude of viewpoints that drive each other.

What we can do is not always assume we are right.

What we can do is try to find the best overall answer for the common good while anticipating the reasons why others may not be happy with the results and try to mitigate these poorly perceived results.

What we can do is work on our communication style so that we don't come off as aggressive, and give others the benefit of the doubt that they are not trying to be aggressive.

Until we understand and accept that 'getting along' does not mean that everyone shares the exact same views without question we will never be able to use our differences for good. But 'not getting along' does not have to be synonymous with arguing or fighting.
